The Team's Message - February 2025
Dear Friends,
We hope the new year has got off to a good start for everyone. Despite the rather cold weather, we hope that some of you will be able to take a few trips out to sea. Not at the weekend, of course, as the bridges at Grau du Roi are closed. By the way, we hope that one day, we'll get more of a hearing from the Grau-du-Roi town hall, more ‘sympathy’ for all those who use the canal, and that those damn bridges can be opened every weekend during the winter, at least twice a day. In any case, we'll be working on it. We have also learned that the swing bridge is at the end of its life and that it really will have to be rebuilt, at least for a while yet, given the usual administrative delays.
We have received the report on the analysis of the sheet piles, and you can find all the documents on the site. We hope you will find it useful.
The association bureau has scheduled a meeting for 1ᵉʳ March at 3pm at the Maison des Associations at the Pôle Constance. As usual, you will be able to ask any questions you may have, suggest useful actions, and, of course, we will end the meeting with a drink. All owners, members and non-members alike, are invited.
We are starting 2025, so please remember to pay your membership fee, which is still €30. Your support for the association is our strength in our dealings with Port-Croisade and the town hall - I would even go so far as to say the town halls, as Le Grau-du-Roi is involved. Thank you in advance.
We wish you a lovely February. Take care of yourselves
With kind regards
The President of the Association and Board of Directors

The World of Apu, Indian film made in 1959
This is the third and final part of Satyajit Ray's famous Apu trilogy, which tells the story of a Bengali boy in the early 20th century. Apu's World focuses on Apu's adult life, and introduces actors Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore, who would go on to star in many of Ray's later films. The film is based on the novel Aparajito by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay.
Apu (played by Soumitra Chatterjee) is an unemployed graduate living in a rented room in Calcutta. He is working on an autobiographical novel in the hope of being published one day. One day he meets his old friend Pulu, who convinces him to accompany him to his village to attend the wedding of a cousin called Aparna (played by 14-year-old Sharmila Tagore). On the day of the wedding, it turns out that the groom is suffering from a serious mental disorder. The bride's mother cancels the wedding, despite the father's protests: he and the other villagers are convinced that the young bride must marry on the appointed day. Otherwise she will remain unmarried for the rest of her life. Apu, after initially refusing the request of some of the villagers, finally takes Pulu's advice and comes to the bride's aid by agreeing to marry her.
Admission €6, €5 (members), €4 (under 18s and unemployed).

The VIA DOMITIA or Domitian Way’ conference
The Via Domitia is the oldest road built in Gaul by the Romans. It bears the name of the proconsul Cnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus, who founded Narbonne in 11 BC. This mythical road linked Italy and Spain, crossing Transalpine Gaul from the Alps to the Pyrenees.
The Roman road is highly symbolic: in the collective imagination, it is associated with the omnipotence of an immense empire that was the first to set up a structured network of roads.
Presented by Mireille Sanchez, classics teacher and Latin-Greek trainer
Organised in collaboration with the Chemins de Camargue association. The talk will probably be followed by a guided tour of the Ambrussum site.
